5.0 out of 5 stars Witty, educational, and thought-provoking - all in one book!
Witty, educational, and thought-provoking - all in one book! I love the idea of creating a fantasy world in which to educate children subtly, not only about technological concepts, but also about values such as caring selflessly for ones family and for the environment. Fatima is a courageous character and the style of writing is entertaining. This is cleverly written and I cannot wait for my nieces to enjoy reading this!

Frequently Asked
Who is the author?
As a Primary-school Computing teacher, I wanted to create a story that sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and shows children how Computing connects to their everyday lives. Many children don’t realise that the technology around them (like routers, modems, or online services) is part of the bigger world of Computing. Through Slums of Senail, I bring these concepts to life in an imaginative, fantasy adventure that helps children recognise and understand them in a fun, engaging way.
How will this book benefit my child?
Slums of Senail is a unique blend of adventure and learning, designed to spark curiosity and build confidence in young readers. Written by a mum and Computing teacher, the story introduces real digital concepts, such as networks, routers, and online services, through an imaginative fantasy world. Children often use technology every day without understanding how it works. This book helps them connect what they see around them to the bigger world of Computing, showing that it’s not just for “tech experts,” but something they can understand and explore.
How is this book different from other fantasy stories?
Unlike many children’s books, Slums of Senail weaves Computing naturally into the storyline, making learning effortless and enjoyable. A glossary at the back supports new vocabulary, helping children learn without pressure. Beyond Computing, the story highlights global issues like access to clean water, education, and safety, building empathy and awareness. Perfect for ages 7–11, this book inspires imagination, encourages digital literacy, and could be the spark that shapes your child’s future.
